Absolutes are pure essential oils that are extracted by solvents instead of steam distillation. Flowers are too delicate to be processed using heat or pressure so they are placed in a sealed container and the solvent flows over the flowers to dissolve the essential oil from the petals. After the solution is collected the solvent is carefully distilled off.
