Aromatherapy and essential oils are such a pleasure to use. Below are some useful and helpful ways for you to get the most out of your aromatherapy and essential oils.


Body and facial skin care products

Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil to base skin creams, lotions, shampoos and conditioners.


Burners

Add 6-8 drops of an essential oil or fragrant oil with some water in your burner for a wonderful aroma.


Cleaning

Add 4-5 drops of your favourite essential oil in the final rinse of your washing machine, add 1-2 drops of Lemon essential oil to dishwashing water, add a few drops of Eucalyptus, Lemon or Pine essential oil in warm water and use to freshen benches and bathrooms.


Compress

Add 5-6 drops of an essentail oil to 1 litre of water. Immerse a cloth in water and place on area needed. Use hot water for arthritis and rheumatism, and cold water for headaches, sprains and bruises.


Foot bath

Add 5 drops of an essential oil to warm water. Peppermint essential oil helps to soothe tired feet.


Inhalation

Add 4-6 drops of an essential oil to 1 litre of hot water. Cover the head with a towel and inhale the vapour.  Our ‘Breathe Easy' synergetic blend is a decongestant blend extremely beneficial for coughs, flu and chest congestion. For direct inhalation pour 1-2 drops on a tissue.


Insect repellent

To keep insects at bay add a couple of drops of Eucalyptus, Lemongrass or Tea Tree essential oil to your burner.


Massage

Enjoy the relaxing and revitalising benefits of an aromatherapy massage by using 10 drops of essential oils to 20ml of carrier oil. You may wish to choose the pre-made blends of massage oils.


Mouth wash

Add 1 drop of Spearmint essential oil to a small glass of water, rinse and gargle. Do not swallow.


Spa and bath

Treat yourself to a bath or spa with 5-10 drops of essential oils or synergestic blends of essential oils. Agitate the water to release the vapours, relax and inhale.


Shower

Use a few drops of essential oils on the floor of the shower, covering the drain and inhale the vapours.


Some Safety Rules for Essential Oils

Essential oils are for intended for external use only. Please do not apply essential oils directly onto the skin – you should dilute the essential oil with a carrier oil as directed. There are just a few essential oils that can be applied neat. When trying an oil for the first time, use only one drop to ensure that you do not have a sensitivity or a bad reaction to the essential oil. Take special care with these pure essentail oils in the following situations.

 

Skin irritants

Cinnamon Bark, Clove, Fennel (Bitter) essential oils can irritate the skin.  In addition, use Basil, Cinnamon Leaf, Fennel (Sweet), Lemongrass, Lemon, Orange and Peppermint with caution.


Pregnancy

Aniseed, Basil, Cedarwood, Clary Sage, Cypress, Fennel, Jasmine, Juniper Berry, Majoram, Myrrh, Nutmeg, Peppermint, Rose and Rosemary essential oils should be avoided during pregnancy.


Photosensitivity

Citrus oils are photosensitive and should not be used before exposure to sun.


Storing and caring for your essential oils

Essential oils are very sensitive to everyday conditions. To enhance the longevity of your essential oils they are best stored in a cool, dark place away from sunlight. Ensure you seal your essential oils well after each use, as they can oxidize and evaporate. It is also important to note that essential oils are flammable so keep them away from hot areas and heat.
