Help with colds and the flu the natural way
Here in New Zealand winter has snuck up again on us and we hope you are surviving the patch of bad weather we’ve been having. With winter on its way and the weather being more wet, windy and chilly it’s the season where many of us start to develop the sniffles, or worse a cold or the flu. Coughing and sneezing spreads the infection, and using pure essential oils with their natural healing properties can help eliminate germs, ease breathing if you are feeling congested and offer relief from the discomfort from a cold or the flu.
Basil ~ Effective in providing relief from respiratory tract problems and general infections
Eucalyptus ~ Contains very good antibacterial and antiviral properties and is helpful for respiratory problems such as bronchitis and coughs
Ginger ~ Helpful for treating colds and the flu, and poor circulation due to the cold weather
Lavender ~ Contains antiseptic properties that helps prevent infection
Lemon ~ Has good antiseptic qualities and helps to fight infections
Pine ~ Contains antiseptic qualities and provides temporary relief from bronchial coughs
Peppermint ~ An effective treatment for sinus congestion
Rosewood ~ Fortifies the immune system providing resistance against viruses and infections
Sweet Orange ~ Has a fortifying affect on the immune system so helpful with fighting colds, bronchitis and fever
Tea Tree ~ Known to lower a fever through its cleansing action and helps to tackle the flu and cold sores
Take a bath or blend with a carrier oil and use to massage the neck, head and shoulders while inhaling the vapours. Or use in a vaporiser or aromatherapy burner to help keep germs at bay and to help others in the family from catching the virus. Why not try this essential blend for relieving a cold or the flu:
- 2 drops eucalyptus essential oil
- 2 drops lavender essential oil
- 2 drops tea tree essential oil
If you don’t have all these essential oils on hand or feel like mucking around with measuring out your oils why not try our Breathe Easy Synergistic Blend where all the hard work is done for you. Breathe Easy contains the essential oils of eucalyptus, peppermint, pine and tea tree. Eucalyptus provides decongestant benefits, peppermint is head clearing, pine is invigorating while tea tree helps to strengthen the immune system. This is a penetrating respiratory and cleansing blend that helps to eliminate colds, flu, chest congestion, sinus and bronchial cough with the overall aim to make you breathe easier. It may help nurture and strengthen the lungs, throat and sinuses by opening, clearing and soothing the tissues and membranes.
We hope you’ve enjoyed reading this month’s newsletter. We wish you all the best for June, please stay warm and have a lovely and safe long Queen’s Birthday weekend. We are looking forward to heading off to sunny Nelson, a long overdue trip which we had to cancel the first time around!
All the best!
Kind regards,
Renata & Grant
